Guxi Studio 古夕工作室 A story can change people _in a good way

起于辛丑 成于壬寅 立于癸卯 潇潇一念云逍遥。
Founded in 2021, it was formulas studio, with the purpose of formulating something. Reopen in 2023, with my passion and love for this long long story. I named it Guxi, meaning the old times when all the love started. It’s rather than a reopening, it’s a new beginning.

Writing a Long Roll of Chinese Poem for Love Using Chinese Calligraphy

春葬桃花祭风月 墨染桃香长情诗 华年四月再相逢 满怀期许桃犹荣
Wish we meet again in April, and the beautiful peach blossoms are still there. I buried the flowers in spring to sacrifice this magnificent scene. I used those dying flowers in my grinding ink to write this long roll of the poem for love.

Beyond desktop : create a Utopia world with new technologies and touching stories

"Good emotional experience should cover as much human sensing system as possible. Typical sensing includes sight, hearing, touch, smell, and taste. Accordingly, we should apply visual, auditory, tactile, olfactory, and gustatory effects in those immersive experiences. More than that, emotional stories are still the most efficient way to generate emotion. I am proposing the idea of Story-centered Utopia, which is a new type of universe that goes way beyond our current universe. In the future, everyone will have their own Utopia. And we are together, creating a multi-universe utopias future."

An innovation-driven design studio aims to help start-up companies with product design and marketing

"Dream not big, but different. Formulas launched in Amsterdam in 2021 with the aspiration to help growing start-up companies do web platform, mobile App, IoT product design and marketing. Not like many “big” agencies, Formulas aims to help start-ups to build their brand and product within a small budget, but still with decent design quality. It is all about fast iteration, we lanuch and test - this is the ultimate approach to the new world."

We care so we share. Thoughts collide, new ideas will appear.

"We believe that creativity is about diverging and focusing. It comes out from discussions of limitations, constraints and concerns. When we design and build new things, we always try a different perspective so that we can see things differently. If we connect the small dots, then magic can happen."

The product design process and what’s coming next for the future?

"The technology will grow faster than we think it will be. Ray Kurzweil in his book “The Singularity Is Near” described that in the near future, machines intelligence will outsmart humans’ intelligence, and these two would merge. He predicted this based on the exponential growth of information-based technology. Since then, many researchers and designers start to focus on computing beyond the desktop. Since the beginning of the 21st century, this type of research diverged into Virtual Reality, Tangible Computing, Affective Computing, Ubiquitous Computing, and Augmented Reality."

Challenges of the Future Digital Design Talk

"1968 – Douglas Engelbart demonstrated NLS, a system which uses a mouse, pointers, hypertext, and multiple windows. 1979 – Steve Jobs and other Apple engineers visit Xerox PARC. 1984 – Apple Macintosh popularizes the GUI. Super Bowl commercial shown twice, was the most expensive commercial ever made at that time. In the 1990s, Steve Mann developed a number of user-interface strategies using natural interaction with the real world as an alternative to a command-line interface (CLI) or graphical user interface (GUI). Mann referred to this work as "natural user interfaces", "Direct User Interfaces", and "metaphor-free computing". Examples of interfaces commonly referred to as NUI include: MS PixelSense, MS Kinect, 3D immersive touch."

Meet helium, a design system for Impraise

"There are several reasons that we started to build our design system. For us, the most challenging part of this project is that nobody has sufficient time to fully contribute to this project. We are still a start-up company that mainly focuses on building new upcoming features and continuing delivering values to our customers. However, we also realized that, in the long term, our team can benefit a lot from this project. The design system can bring us structured design components. Therefore it can enable us to speed up the product development process. Besides, with the new design system components, we can manage consistency across the whole platform well."

Remote Usability Testing with Philips Lighting

"One of the many initiatives being run by the CX and Strategy team is user experience and conversion optimization. They apply Lean UX methodology to work in rapid, iterative cycles to optimize their digital touch points. Through analyzing data (e.g. behavioural analytics, user feedback, survey results, user tests) they identify areas for improvement. This allows their team to ideate and test solutions, which often involves A/B testing or piloting, measuring results, then using the data gathered to help inform the next optimization cycle."

Indirect monitoring and social feedback interventions to motivate people to exercise more in online fitness communities

"Persuasive technology that motivates healthy behavior is a growing area of research within Human-Technology Interaction. The current research investigated the effectiveness of negative peer feedback utilized in social fitness groups as a social monitoring tool to motivate people to exercise more. We conducted a study using a randomized pretest-posttest and invited 122 participants for testing the effects of negative peer feedback provided within a small fitness group on exercise performance. Participants were randomly allocated in either the negative peer feedback treatment group or the control group with no negative peer feedback. "

See Where I am Looking at: Perceiving Gaze Cues With a NAO Robot

"Gaze is an important nonverbal cue in human - human communication, for example, in communicating direction of attention. Therefore, presumably being able to understand and provide gaze cues is an important aspect in robot's interactive behavior. While there is considerable progress, as regards the design of social gaze cues for robots, there is little that has been done to examine the ability of humans to read and accept help signals from a robot's gaze. In this study, we examine how people perceive gaze cues and head angles directed towards different target positions on a table when human and NAO robot are sitting against each other as in board game scenarios. From the results, we show that when the head pitch angle is higher (24±2) and the depth is less, approximately 20 cm from the robot, participants detected the positions with good accuracy. Unexpectedly, the locations on the left of the robot were detected with lower accuracy. In conclusion, we discuss the implications of this research for design of interaction settings between human and a robot that is intended for social and educational support."

Engkoo Pinyin IME Beta, a cloud-based, Chinese-language input method using Bing search capability, was released.

"The Engkoo Pinyin IME Beta has changed the traditional concept of input-method editors (IME) by adding superior input quality and transforming the IME into a search engine. Following the lab’s unique, deployment-driven research model, the team created a new software-development model that uses social media to garner user feedback in real time and shorten the update cycle."
