INTRODUCTION

Since the demonstration of NLS, a system that uses a mouse, pointers, hypertext, and multiple windows, by Douglas Engelbart in 1968. The graphic user interface system has been the main interactive pattern in the past decades. Our generation will face more challenge in the user interface design, as UI nowadays is not just in a 2D world, but in a more complicated 3D environment. The new VR/AR world should mimic real-life physics: gravity, speed, etc. to make people feel they are “real”, however, not real at the same time. And that’s when the magic happens in users’ eyes. And we will be the ones to make this magic happen.

THE CHALLENGE

Explore the basic workflow of AR and data projects.

THE OUTCOME

A collection of various C4D abstract objects animation and rendering together with some model test in Adobe Aero AR environment.

Character-shaped dots animation

Use C4D Cloner on multiple Spheres, a Connect with MoTest inside, and a Random effect.

Animated dots with shaded effect

Use a Cloner with small spheres and shader effect.

Animated dots with randomization

Use a Cloner with small spheres and a Randomizer.

Animated lines

Use C4D Emitter, Volume Builder within a random field, Field Force and Tracer.

Animated landscape splines

Use C4D Landscape and splines tool, together with some randomized Cloned Spheres.

Animated tree diagram

Use C4D Emitter, Tracer, and Turbulence. By adjusting the parameters inside those calculation functions, the tree diagram is controllable.

Nested lines and spheres with animation

Use C4D Atom Array on a Sphere object with Displacer.

Animated lines within a sphere field

Use C4D Tracer with a Cloner of small Spheres, with multiple effects like Turbulence and Rotation, together with an Attractor in the center.

DISCUSSIONS

value & impact

In the project, I explored the basic workflow of augmented reality. Cinema 4D provides various objects and animation calculations, which allow the big data visualization simulated inside Cinema 4D. Adobe Aero offers an augmented reality environment, where we can test out models and conduct several animations inside. Based on those explorations, I can further take some real AR projects design practice.
